Employee Benefit Specialist

Our Employee Benefit Specialists have two primary functions; 1) RFP preparation and 2) Customer Service.

Specialists often interact with customers on the telephone, although they can also communicate in person, by mail or via email.  Customer service representatives must be calm and patient, even when dealing with irate or troubled employees or clients.

Most often the Benefit Specialist customer service role is to deal with specific questions about products, offer technical support, deal with product problems, or solve problems.

    • Claim Issues – In/out-of-network issues, Out-of-area claim issues, Certificate of Coverage issues, Coordination of Benefits (COB) issues, Medicare collections, patient refunds, Rx issues, and member’s in collection, provider billing issues, deductibles, claim appeals, subrogation and unpaid or denied claim issues.
    • Billing – Late premium notices, members not on bill, m embers not termed from bill, members showing under the wrong sub-group, etc
    • Benefits – In/out-of-network questions, deductible information, Out-of-pocket max information, pre-authorization questions, etc.
    • Enrollment Issues – Training assistance in carrier enrollment procedures and intervention to resolve enrollment problems. Problems can include a member not showing active, issues related to over-age dependent status, court ordered additions, SSN# corrections, etc.
    • General Requests or Questions – Requests for applications, provider directories and general forms (i.e. student verification forms, continuation of care forms, etc.)
    • Prepare specifications to obtain competitive bids from selected insurance organizations and other third party administrators/stop-loss carriers.
    • Prepares and analyzes bids, rates and renewals for employee benefit plans
    • Prepare a written report (spreadsheets) outlining the plan provisions, cost summaries and benefit illustrations.
    • Prepare the Interactive Proposal Builder (IPB) for selected accounts
